Dementia and Specialist Support in North Cork, Limerick and Kerry
Memory loss changes a lot, but not the need to feel safe, respected and understood. Our carers support people with dementia and complex needs in their own homes across North Cork, Limerick and Kerry.
Dementia care at home across North Cork, Limerick and Kerry
For a person with dementia, home is full of cues: the chair, the photographs, the sound of the kettle. These help them stay oriented and calm. Care at home, with familiar faces and routines, can reduce confusion and distress.
Our carers get to know the whole person first: their history, what they love, what unsettles them and what makes them laugh. That knowledge goes into the care plan, so each carer follows the same approach and the day feels predictable.
We support families too. Caring for a relative with dementia is exhausting, and you deserve a rest and someone to talk to.

How we support people living with dementia
- A steady routine and the same carers wherever possible
- Clear, calm communication and no rushing
- Help with meals, hydration, washing and medication prompts
- Activities linked to the person's life, such as music, photos and walks
- Safety steps for the home, including night-time and wandering risks
- Regular updates and reviews with the family

Dementia care questions from families
Are your carers trained in dementia care?
Carers receive training in understanding dementia, communication and responding calmly to changes in behaviour, and they are supervised and supported by our manager and a registered nurse. Your care plan records what helps and what upsets the person, so every carer follows the same approach.
Can someone with dementia stay at home?
Often, yes, particularly with a consistent routine and carers they know. As needs change, we review the plan with you and your family, and we will be honest if a different level of care becomes safer.
What if my relative becomes distressed or wanders?
Your care plan sets out the signs to watch for, the approaches that help and the safety steps for the home. Carers know when to call our manager or nurse, and we involve your family and GP when needed.
Where can families get more advice on dementia?
The Alzheimer Society of Ireland offers information and support for people with dementia and their families at alzheimer.ie. Your GP and public health nurse can also help.
